Immunity, Lymphatic Drainage via Reflexology and the Feet

Using Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) to boost and strengthen your immunity to increase your body’s resistance to any passing virus, bacteria or fungi is vital in keeping you healthy.

As a holistic Naturopath and Reflexologist, I am all about preventative natural health care and believe that Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage or RLD is an essential tool that needs to be kept in your self-care kit and frequently accessed to keep your immunity boosted.

Your body’s immune system, the Lymphatic System, is incredibly intelligent and given the right tools, I believe, it will do the job it was designed to do.

There are many ways how RLD can help you:

  • Boost your immunity by encouraging the healthy response of your personal immune system to eliminating virus, bacteria, fungi toxins and waste, exchanging for healthy healing nutrients.

  • Faster recovery from colds and flu

  • Reduce Oedema (swelling) or Lymphoedema from injury, surgery, where lymphatic nodes have been removed from the breast, armpit and groin and other areas. A note on oedema – this can also be from high blood pressure, poor kidney dysfunction, thyroid imbalance or poor circulation, lack of movement.

  • Reduce toxic waste like a detox process and for heavy metals and chemical poisoning.

  • Reduce inflammation and pain.

  • After Surgery, great to reduce inflammation and pain and bring fresh nutrients to heal the tissue.

  • Sprains/strains, Faster Muscle recovery

  • Improve skin conditions e.g. acne, eczema, psoriasis

  • Easier joint mobility as the oedema and inflammation decrease

  • Great success for hayfever and sinusitis allergy relief

  • Pregnancy oedema

What is the Lymphatic System?

We have a large network of lymphatic organs, vessels, nodes and tissues throughout our body that are our personal defence army against invading virus and bacteria. Our bone marrow, thymus, appendix, tonsils, and lymphatic nodes all make up this Lymphatic System,

The Lymphatic System has this pretty clever exchange highway system just below the surface of your skin. It takes away waste, oedema (swelling) and toxins and brings back fresh clean nutrients to feed your body’s cells and tissues for healing.

If the Lymphatic system is blocked or stagnant, this elimination process becomes sluggish and dysfunctional. I believe, this is when many dis-eases begin.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?

A professional therapy where the body’s Lymphatic fluid is moved up, manually, through lymph nodes located at various sites throughout the body e.g. ankles, knees, upper thigh, groin, abdomen, upper chest, armpits, above collarbone, neck and face.

This fluid is then re-entered into the circulation system where it is eliminated through one of the orifices or holes in your body. E.g. mouth, nose, eyes, ears, urine, bowels.

Your Lymphatic System can also be moved through deep breathing, continuous movement where you move your arms and legs, rebounding on a mini rebounder, or sweating it out in a sauna.

In my clinic, this is done via Reflexology on the feet using specific techniques and we Reflexologists call this therapy Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage.

My interest was first piqued about the Lymphatic System, when I learnt Bernard Jensen's Iridology. In Iridology, a stagnant Lymphatic System is visible in the iris of the eye as the body's internal system is mapped on the iris.

I then went on to learn Manual Lymphatic Drainage as part of my Massage Training.  (Nope, sorry, I no longer provide Massage Therapy!).

I found this to be quite complex and the client had to undress as for a massage, plus be repeatedly turned back and forth on the table! Crikey, I was exhausted as much as my clients!

Then I learnt Reflexology and Lymphatic Drainage via the feet in 2008 and have been practising ever since.

Ahhhhhhhhh! I was in heaven!  This was my cup of tea! All my clients had to do was take their shoes off, lie back in my Reflexology Chair, relax and drift off to that Pacific Island Resort, whilst I started the process of moving the Lymphatic Fluid up through the body.

In 2017 in Auckland, I was introduced to another Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage method by Sally Kay from the U.K.

What to expect in your Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage treatments

Initially, I recommend 3 x treatments in a row, every one or second week, to give your Lymphatic System a rev up and boost!

All you need to do is take your shoes off, lie back in my Reflexology Chair, listen to the music and allow the deep healing and relaxation begin. Relaxing is key to allowing the flow of the Lymphatic System. Tight internal body muscles hinder this flow.
