Autumn leaves are falling and Winter is advancing.  With the cooling down of temperatures, a weakened immunity allows passing coughs, sniffles, colds and flu to get past the defence walls.  How prepared are you this year to fight any lurking virus and bacteria pathogens that might happen to invisibly fly past?

What's in your Winter Wellness tool kit?

Natural health and especially herbal medicine with its range of natural antibiotics is a cost effective, gentle and safe option for you and your family.

Some people are allergic to antibiotics leaving them with an upset tummy, nausea and/or diarrhoea.  Research shows a course of antibiotics can deplete your gut microbiome (the good gut bacteria) for up to 4 years with more and more folk becoming antibiotic resistant due to over-use.

Here in my Taradale clinic, I have a liquid herbal dispensary available to you and your family for creating the perfect Winter Immunity herbal remedy.

Remedy not to your liking, that's OK. Herbal medicine comes in teas and supplement form as well. Some herbal medicines can interact with medications, so please ask before buying "over the counter". Click here for more information on herbal medicine.

This beautiful versatile herb, Echinancea root (angustifolia and purpurea), is a natural antibiotic for helping enhance and modulate the immune system.

There are many uses for Echinancea root, however its affinity is with the Lymphatic and Blood systems i.e. clogged or stagnant Lymphatic flow, raised glands, enlarged spleen, raising the white blood cell count and septic unclean blood for skin conditions in boils, pimples, and ulcers.

As soon as I feel the slightest out of balance symptom – be it hot fuzzy head, 1 red hot ear, sore or scratchy throat, ears clicking when I swallow, the 2nd sneeze and for me the roof of my mouth gets ticklish when I rub my tongue against it, a swollen gland under the jaw, I’m hunting for my clinic or home stash of liquid Echinacea root tincture and apply acute dosing until the symptoms calm down. This is how it works for me.

Garlic (Allium sativum) is another natural antibiotic. Traditionally garlic has been known for its healing properties for all manner of infections including chest and ear infections, cold and flu and reduces mucus. Garlic reduces cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugars, thins the blood and great for elimination of intestinal parasites.  I add concentrated garlic herbal tincture into my immune herbal remedies. You can eat raw garlic, or crush and mix with a jar of pure manuka honey for a double whammy antibiotic!

Pau d' Arco (Tabebuia spp) is another natural antibiotic and is made up from the bark of the Lapacho tree found in South America. Great for fighting off viral and bacerial infections of the nose, mouth and throat, thus stimulating the immune system. Also known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour properties. Again, a perfect herbal tincture to add to your immune remedy.

Goldenseal root (Hydrastis canadensis) originates from Native American Indian medicine. One of Goldenseal's active medicinal constituent is berberine, yet another natural antibiotic for boosting the immune system.

It is also known as a tonic for the mucous membranes of the stomach and spleen aiding assimilation and nutrition of nutrients, chronic sinusitis, hayfever, ear infections, pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, weakened heart muscle, diabetic ulcerations and the stopping of gushing bleeding e.g. menorrhagia.

Other immune herbs I may add into herbal remedies can be Olive Leaf, Poke Root, Clivers, Astragalus, Andrographis, Siberian Ginseng, Astragalus, Rhemannia, Withania, Elecampane, Drosera or White Horehound.

Every person is an individual with a unique constitution. The beauty of a individualised herbal remedy from my clinic, and not a general off the shop floor, is that it is special, just for you with herbs matched to your own personality , thus creating a deeper healing resonance. Oh, and always made with love, light and intention of healing.
